Along with fellow Labour MPs and representatives from Trade Unions, Julie attended a #SaveOurSteel rally in Parliament to show her support for steelworkers from all over the UK, hundreds of whom had travelled down to London for the march.

During Prime Minister's Question Time, Julie asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne - standing in for David Cameron - about tuition fees. The Coalition Government trebled tuition fees four years ago and now, the Government intends to create a Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) that would assess and grade the quality of teaching in universities, allowing the highest performing universities to increase their fees with inflation beyond the current £9,000 cap.

Julie chaired a Keynote Seminar at the Westminster Education Forum's Event at London Bridge on Reforming maths qualifications in England - GCSEs, A-Levels, core maths and compulsory courses post-16.


During the seminar, members of the panel discussed the impact of Government changes to mathematics courses on teachers and pupils, what progress had been made so far and what would be the future challenges for the education system.
