It was very exciting to witness the start of new building work at the Beacon of Light site today – despite the very chilly weather.

This new development, which is right next to the Stadium of Light, will bring new educational, sport and training facilities to the area.

The Beacon of Light is both an exciting, and inspiring project and, once finished, it will be a fantastic asset for the city for years to come.

** The unique centre will be the first of its kind in the UK and include engaging and interactive zones in education; health, fitness; sport, play and work.

Built over three stories, and occupying 4.75 Hectares, the Beacon is designed to be inspirational – as well as celebrate the history of its City in its design.

Facilities will include sports halls, football pitches, flexible informal learning spaces, education suites and a ‘players’ lounge’.
