Julie Elliott MP Standing up for Sunderland Central
Tens of thousands of people across the UK suffer from problems with gambling – an issue which can drag those who are vulnerable into a spiral of debt, depression and despair.
I recently met with staff from the charity GambleAware to discuss the issue and, although the situation sounds bleak, there is some positive news – in that plenty of help is available.
If you, or someone you know, has been affected by gambling issues, I would strongly suggest that you contact the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133.
People can also find help and advice online at www.BeGambleAware.org – where if they prefer, there is also the option to talk to a counsellor in a private, online chat room.
For many people, just a phone conversation or online chat with these advisers is enough to help regain control, as they have many useful tips and tools to help them.
