Julie’s comments on the Westminster Hall debate on dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, secured by Jim Shannon MP:

“I would like to thank Jim Shannon MP for securing a debate on such an important topic.

Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease have affected the lives of so many and action must be taken to ensure that those who have been diagnosed with such diseases, their loved ones, and those who tirelessly care for them, receive the support that the need.

More must be done to raise awareness of dementia and Alzheimer’s. The more that we all know about them will enable those living with dementia to receive appropriate support.

I have seen first-hand in Sunderland the fantastic work that carers do on a daily basis in specialised dementia care homes. We are also fortunate that we have excellent charities wholly dedicated to this issue that are working hard on national and local levels.”
