Julie was pleased to attend an event hosted by fellow Labour MP, Mary Creagh, and Fashion Revolution which marked the start of Fashion Revolution Week 2016, a week of activities in 84 countries around the world to demand a fairer, cleaner and more transparent fashion industry. It marks the anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory complex collapse in Bangladesh, killing 1,134 and injuring 2,500 people in 2013.

At the event, Julie said:

“I am pleased to join Livia Firth and my colleague Mary to mark the start of Fashion Revolution week 2016, and to join them to demand a fairer deal for garment workers. The anniversary of the devastating Rana Plaza disaster is an important reminder of the importance of transparency in the fashion industry; the tragedy left many local people in Sunderland Central wondering how ethical their clothes really were.”
