Following the debate, Julie said

“The Creative Industries are booming and now it is estimated that they generate £10 million per hour for the UK economy totalling an incredible £84 billion every year.

We have brilliant creativity in Sunderland. The University of Sunderland has invested heavily in cultural and creative education, Sunderland Software City is supporting innovation and growth in the North East’s software industry and Sunderland 2021 is showcasing the very best of what our city has to offer.

The MAC Trust has been the driving force behind many of the wonderful things happening in our city in arts and culture. We have a vibrant, home-grown music scene, great live music venues and The Cultural Spring has worked in our city and South Shields to transform the way in which people view, experience and make art.

I am immensely proud of the creative work that is taking place in Sunderland and very pleased to have had the opportunity to discuss this in the House of Commons today.”
