Julie Elliott, Member of Parliament for Sunderland Central, has responded angrily to the outcome of today’s meeting of the Tyne and Wear Fire Authority.

Julie said:

“I am extremely disappointed that Tyne and Wear Fire Authority failed to support a motion that would have prevented the closure of Sunderland Central fire station.  The agreed upon review is simply not good enough.  I will redouble my efforts to try and stop this closure going ahead, working with all concerned to make the Fire Authority see sense and revise this genuinely unsafe decision.  If Option 3 is implemented, lives will be put at risk in Sunderland.”
