Land just north of the Nissan site has been earmarked for the project -; described as a world-class environment for advanced manufacturing and automotive business.

But, before the final plans are drafted, a series of consultation days are to be held across the area to gather views to help with the design of the site.

“This project could secure a brighter future for Sunderland and the potential for job creation is huge,” said Julie Elliot, MP for Sunderland Central.

“However, before things move ahead, the people of Sunderland need to have their voice heard. I would therefore urge people to go along to a consultation event or contribute online.”

Sunderland City Council and South Tyneside Council have joined forces to deliver the new park, which will underpin the continued success of the area’s automotive and manufacturing sectors.

Consultation days will be held at:

  • December 6 from 2-8pm: Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, Burdon Road, Sunderland.
  • December 7 from 2-7pm: Washington Library, The Galleries, Independence Square, Washington.
  • December 10 from 10am-4pm: Boldon Village Hall, North Road, Boldon.

Project documents are also available to view at all Sunderland libraries, as well as Sunderland Civic Centre, or by visiting: www.iampnortheast.com
