Back the bid for Sunderland City of Culture 2021

It’s time to back the bid for for Sunderland City of Culture 2021. Surely we are in with a chance of winning this?

It has been revealed that Sunderland is in competition with ten others to be crowned UK City of Culture 2021, with the winner due to be announced later this year.

Warrington, Stoke, Paisley, Perth, Coventry, St Davids, Portsmouth, Hereford, Swansea and Wells have, like our great city, thrown their hats in the ring.

The benefits of Sunderland being named UK City of Culture 2021 are difficult to overstate. Since winning the 2017 title way back in 2013, Hull has received £1billion investment and its economy will be boosted by an estimated £60million this year alone. The cultural and social benefits of winning the bid have been similarly substantial.

I love Sunderland and wouldn’t live anywhere else. I know it would benefit every single person in the city if we were to win and so we must throw our full weight behind the bid.
