This week I wrote to the Government’s housing minister about proposals to convert Angel House, in Borough Road, from a commercial office block to a residential tower block.

I am really concerned that, due to changes made by the Coalition Government between 2010 and 2015, this conversion could go ahead without a full planning application and robust public scrutiny.

It’s not right that developers are able to convert non-residential buildings into residential tower blocks through the process that is normally used for small home improvements.

I find this very worrying, especially in light of the Grenfell Tower atrocity. This loophole could potentially put my constituents at risk. Read the Echo story here:
