Time to cut the "crack cocaine of gambling" stakes

The Gambling Commission has this week recommended that maximum stakes for fixed odds betting terminals should be cut to £30 or less.

I welcome these proposals as a first step towards a £2 limit - which would really tackle the damage that FOBTs are doing to individuals and their families.

We know that bookmakers target those who can least afford it with these machines, so regulations need to go much further if we are to properly protect vulnerable people.

That’s why the Government should back Labour’s call to reduce the maximum stake to £2.
