"I welcome the news that no station closures are to be considered for at least three years, subject to review.  I am pleased the fire authority has listened to the people of Sunderland and common sense has prevailed.  However, significant cuts are still set to take place because of the reduction in funding being imposed by central government."

Julie gained first hand experience of the work being done by Royal Mail this morning as she helped a local postman on his round.  Royal Mail is modernising and adapting due to a fall in the numbers of letters and increasing numbers of parcels, largely as a result of people shopping online.

Bank bonuses are on the rise and the wealthiest in our country have been given a tax cut by David Cameron.  But young people, who have been hit hardest by the recession, are being left behind.

Too many young people in Sunderland Central are struggling to find work and not seeing any economic recovery at all. The number of young people aged 18-24 claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance for over a year has doubled under David Cameron - from 28,300 in May 2010 to 56,100 today.

As part of National Apprenticeship Week Julie visited Carillion Training Centre in Sunderland to present awards to two young apprentices, recognising their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm to learning and developing new skills.

Julie awarded Ryan Farthing with an Apprentice of the Year award for the achievements and progress he has made throughout his course.  Deven Wilson, 18 from Fulwell, was also presented with the Apprentice of the Month award by Julie for his brilliant attitude on placement.

Today, Julie formally opened a new birthing pool at Sunderland Royal Hospital.  The facility has already been functioning for several months and over fifty babies have been delivered safely in the suit.
