Julie Elliott MP Standing up for Sunderland Central
It is great news that Nissan has decided to build its new electric vehicle here in Sunderland, and that Envision are building a new Battery Gigafactory to complement its existing production lines.
I am delighted that Nissan and Envision have decided to continue investing in our area, providing high-skilled jobs, vital skills training and apprenticeships for young people in Sunderland and across the North East.
We have a dedicated, world-class workforce in Sunderland, who have played a pioneering role in the developing electric vehicle market, using cutting-edge technology, and I am glad this will continue.
This announcement too shows Sunderland City Council’s commitment to green energy, and to ensuring that our city is continuing to lead in this area.
This is a first of its kind development, and it shows the Councils ambition for the city, helping to provide green jobs that will sustain into the future.
It is a great example of our Council working with the private sector and the Government to deliver for the people of Sunderland, securing vital investment.
I have long been a champion of the work that Nissan does in Sunderland, and the opportunities that it provides for people. I hope that this announcement of investment in Sunderland is one of many and I look forward to the benefits that this will bring.
