Julie Elliott MP Standing up for Sunderland Central
Honoured to take part in the Newcastle Bridges Walk in aid of Kidney Research with my daughter Rebecca today – to help bridge the gap between kidney disease and a cure.
It is heart-breaking how kidney disease strikes so indiscriminately. An estimated three million people in the UK are affected by the condition, including Rebecca – who is waiting for a kidney transplant.
Kidney disease can affect anyone of any age. Some people are born with a kidney condition, whilst others only discover years down the line (often completely out of the blue) that they have kidney disease – which is what happened to Rebecca.
Kidney Research is doing vital work in prevention, treatment and ultimately seeking a cure for the condition. I was delighted to hear Professor John Sayer give a very inspiring speech about advances in research during the event today.
