Julie Elliott MP Standing up for Sunderland Central
I am absolutely delighted that a new opt-out system for organ donation was today granted Royal Assent – and will now become law from Spring 2020.
I have always supported a change to presumed consent and, as many of you will know, it is now an issue close to my heart – as my daughter Rebecca is on the waiting list for a new kidney.
Presumed consent will make a huge difference to the number of organs available for transplant. This change will save many lives.
However, under the new law, being an organ donor will still be your choice. Organ donation is a deeply personal decision for everyone.
A huge thank you to each and every one of the campaigners who worked so tirelessly for this.
