Julie Elliott MP Standing up for Sunderland Central
Today in Parliament I called on the Government to pause and fix the flawed Universal Credit system.
The Child Poverty Action Group has found that almost half of those moving on to Universal Credit need support in setting up their claim – help that is often not available.
Some people are having to wait weeks before receiving their first payment. This is causing significant financial difficulty, with many people likely to go into rent arrears.
It’s vital that the Government addresses these problems before millions more are pushed into poverty.
