Julie Elliott MP Standing up for Sunderland Central
An inquiry by the Digital, Cultural, Media and Sport Committee – of which I am a member – has found that the BBC has been slow to end the pay gap between men and women.
Indeed, it has taken the BBC longer than it should have done to even accept they have a problem – and then get to grips with what they need to do.
There is also the issue that some people have been pushed on to contracts where they are not classed as employed when, really, they are solely working for the BBC.
The BBC needs to commit to concrete targets to ensure that the pay of its high earners has absolutely no discriminatory element to it.
