New links needed to get Sunderland “on track”

The need for improved transport links for Sunderland has come under discussion during a Northern Powerhouse Partnership (NPP) meeting.

I joined local business leaders and stakeholders at the National Glass Centre on Friday to examine Sunderland’s need for direct rail links to cities across the Northern Powerhouse region.

Establishing improved connectivity between our city and places such as Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool could help bring jobs, attract investment and benefit businesses.

Transport for the North have so far committed that Northern Powerhouse Rail will go as far as Newcastle. However, it needs to go further and carry this on to Sunderland as well.
