I was delighted to host a gathering at the House of Commons this week to help spread the word on Sunderland’s bid for City of Culture status in 2021.

Sunderland has faced some tough social and economic challenges over the years, so winning the bid would be a massive boost to rebuilding the city’s confidence.

It would put Sunderland firmly into the cultural spotlight, attract millions of pounds into the local economy and help kick-start a period of growth – as well as deliver exciting cultural and artistic events.
