A bill aimed at making councils do more to stop people being made homeless has been welcomed by Julie.

The private member’s bill, which is supported by the government, would place a duty on councils to help those at risk of homelessness to secure accommodation 56 days before losing their home.

“I am delighted that the Homelessness Reduction Bill has now progressed to Committee State,” said Julie, who is Chair of the PLP Housing and Planning Committee.

“We must tackle the scandal of rising homelessness in our country. For the bill to succeed, it’s crucial that full Government funding is made available.

“I must also say thank you to @crisis_uk @StMungos and @Shelter for their tireless work to combat the shameful rise in homelessness.”
