Julie spoke in Parliament in support of Palestinian recognition. Julie spoke of the necessity a two-state solution, brought about by negotiations between the two sides.

Julie said:

“I have a friend who came to Sunderland-my city-in the early ’80s to study at what was then the polytechnic and is now the university. He was born in Gaza and on his travel documents his nationality is given as “Palestinian”, but his brother, who was born in precisely the same place seven or eight years later, had “stateless” on his travel documents. No child should have that on their travel documents; it is wrong, it is immoral and it should stop.”

The vote, whilst only symbolic, was won by a resounding 274-12. Labour has been clear -; Palestinian statehood is not a gift to be given but a right to be recognised.
