At Energy and Climate Change Orals on 27 February, I raised the issue of the Eggborough Poiwer Station. In January it was revealed that the conversion of the power station to biomass will not go ahead after it failed to be shortlisted for Government support. This decision forced investors to pull out of the £750m project, costing 850 jobs and thousands more in the supply chain. I therefore asked the Minister what steps he is taking to ensure that his Government’s policies create jobs, not cost jobs, and safeguard, rather than threaten, our energy security.

The Minister’s response was disappointing, promising no additional support for the plant or its workers. I have therefore written to the Secretary of State to ask for more information on this important issue.
