Julie Elliott MP, Labour’s Shadow Energy and Climate Change Minister, commenting on the renewable energy country attractiveness index, which shows that the UK market has slipped to fifth place behind Japan in rankings of overall attractiveness for investment in renewables, said:

“This announcement is yet another worrying setback for clean energy in the UK. Investment in clean energy has halved on David Cameron’s watch, costing jobs and threatening our energy security.

“The UK has the potential to be a world leader in clean energy. Investors want long-term certainty, but instead they see a Government paralysed by internal rows and chronic indecision. Labour would provide the certainty and clarity investors need by setting a 2030 power sector decarbonisation target.”
