Julie responds to Government attacks on onshore wind developments

In her role as a Shadow Energy Minister, Julie questioned the Government on its attacks on onshore wind developments.

Julie said:

"Investors in renewable energy will have been dismayed to hear the Prime Minister this week, when he appeared in front on the Liaison Committee to attack onshore wind, the cheapest large-scale form of renewable energy. He said: Let’s put them into the planning system and if they can make their case, they will make their case. I suspect that they won’t.

With the Rt Hon Member for Brentwood and Ongar as Communities Secretary, I too share the Prime Minister’s pessimism. Between June 2013 and September 2014, the Communities Secretary intervened in 50 onshore wind applications, projects which could have powered 275,000 homes.

Does the Minister agree with me that instead of listening to local communities, this Government has taken Whitehall intervention in the planning system to unprecedented heights?"
