Julie was delighted that the Codex delegation from Sunderland took time out of their busy visit to tour the Houses of Parliament.

1300 years ago, the Codex Amiatinus, the oldest Bible in the world, travelled from St. Peter’s Church in Sunderland to Rome. To commemorate this historic event, school children across Wearside and Jarrow contributed to designing the Children’s Codex, which will follow the same journey when it is presented to Pope Francis later in the year.

After presenting the Children’s Codex to the Archbishop of Canterbury, the group visited the Houses of Parliament at the invitation of Julie and presented the book to MPs in Westminster Hall. They also got to watch House of Commons business from the public gallery.

On the visit, Julie said, “I am delighted that the group visited Parliament during their brief but historic visit to London so that we could be part of their important visit.”
