This week I spoke in a Parliamentary debate to call for access to the drug Kadcyla that many women with breast cancer rely on.

The drug treats breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and can add up to 9 months to the life expectancy of those taking it. Kadcyla also causes fewer side effects, promising those taking it a better quality of life.

I’m therefore really disappointed that NICE, the NHS advisory body, has rejected Kadcyla for use on the NHS in England.

Kadcyla has been approved in countries like France, Germany, Austria and Canada, so it’s only right that women in the UK can access it too. Our system is just not working for women with breast cancer.
