This week in Parliament I attended an event to find out more about smart meters and how they can help people to reduce their energy bills.

Smart meters show the amount of energy you use as you use it and how much money you are spending. I know that energy bills are often very expensive, so these new meters could be a really important way to help reduce the amount you spend on gas and electricity.

The rollout of smart meters has already begun, and by 2020 all electricity suppliers will be obliged to offer their customers smart meters at no extra costs.
