Julie Elliott MP Standing up for Sunderland Central
Our oceans are a crucial breeding ground for much of the world’s marine-based wildlife, including a quarter of its penguins, so it’s vital that we do all we can to protect them.
That’s why I visited London Zoo this morning to pledge my support for the Blue Belt Charter campaign – which calls on the Government to take the lead on ocean conservation.
The charter includes the establishment of over four million square kilometres of fully protected marine areas – and provides £20m of funding to improve scientific understanding of the marine environment.
It could be a really important way to ensure that our oceans are protected, which is why I have given it my backing.
