Raising support for City of Culture bid

I was delighted to host a gathering at the House of Commons this week to help spread the word on Sunderland’s bid for City of Culture status in 2021.

Sunderland has faced some tough social and economic challenges over the years, so winning the bid would be a massive boost to rebuilding the city’s confidence and putting Sunderland firmly into the cultural spotlight.

Gaining City of Culture status would attract millions of pounds into the local economy, as well as kick-start a period of growth and deliver exciting cultural and artistic events.
