Six-year-old Hill View School pupil Abigail Fox is obviously a politician in the making -; as she is already fighting for a better future for our planet.

I was delighted to receive a lovely drawing from Abigail recently, which contains a powerful message about helping our environment through recycling and not dropping litter.

“Please look after our world,” she wrote on her picture. “When you litter, or don’t recycle, it destroys our world. We want to see everyone on our planet happy.”

I spend a lot of time knocking on doors around Sunderland and, at nearly every home, residents tell me about their concerns over litter and fly-tipping across the city.

Abigail’s artwork contains a vital, and inspirational, message that I wholeheartedly support. People need to take responsibility for their actions and stop littering.

So, please, if you see someone fly-tipping, report them, their van or their number plate by calling the Council on 5205550.
