Securing future of football clubs

Football clubs are more than just a collection of players. They are often at the centre of the community, a key source of civic pride and belonging – and no more so than here in Sunderland.

We just can’t let what happened to Bury Football Club happen to any other club. That is why the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee, of which I’m a member, is looking into this issue.

Labour are advocating for fan representation on club boards, and a levy on the biggest clubs to fund grassroots sport. We can’t let what happened to Bury become normal.
