Julie Elliott MP Standing up for Sunderland Central
Important discussion at Sunderland College today with students, Bridget Phillipson MP and Sharon Hodgson MP about the urgent need to increase funding for Further Education colleges.
Investing in the future of young people is vital – and the Tories just aren’t doing that. Figures released last year show:
- Further Education budgets have been cut by more than a fifth
- 95% of college principle are worried about the effects of Tory cuts
- The average college in England has had to cut 15 courses due to lack of funding
- Funding per student for 16-18yr olds in FE has fallen by 8% in real terms since 2010/2011
Everyone has the right to learn and develop new skills – and FE colleges are vital for the future economic development and social prosperity of communities like Sunderland.
