Julie Elliott MP Standing up for Sunderland Central
This week I have backed calls for a fairer deal for former mineworkers and their families.
It is time that the terms of the Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme were formally reviewed because, currently, surpluses are shared 50/50 between the Treasury and scheme members.
Such a share is not justified, given the strong returns generated by the scheme and the absence of any payments into it by the Government.
