This week I was proud to become Vice Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on State Pension Inequality for Women -; a forum which campaigns on state pension age issues.

Hundreds of thousands of women nationally, including more than 3,000 in Sunderland Central, have been left facing financial hardship due to Tory changes to state pensions.

It is totally unacceptable that those who worked hard and saved all their lives for retirement should be left in this situation – just because they were born on, or after, April 6, 1951.

Women affected by state pension inequality in Sunderland know I will always fight their corner. I promise to do all I can to get them the justice they deserve.

The All-Party group can hold the government to account on the issue of transitional arrangements to compensate 1950s-born women affected by state pension age changes.
